It’s Candle Season

DYI SIMMER POT

Looking for a fun way to scent your home, without the toxins? It's candle season and while it may be tempting, the truth is that many scented candles on the market are made of petroleum-based paraffin paired with artificial scent.

A simmer pot is basically a homemade air freshener made from boiling water along with fragrant pieces of fruits, herbs, and other spices. Using ingredients like apples, cinnamon sticks, oranges, cranberries, lemons, cloves, nutmeg, etc will have your home smelling like the kitchen at Grandma's in no time!

The best part about this DIY is you don't need to follow a recipe if you don't want to. You get to use your favorite ingredients/items on hand as much or as little to suit your needs.

How to: Fill your pot with water and bring to a boil. Add the ingredients, continue to boil for a few minutes, then turn the heat down and simmer. Add water as needed, usually every 30 minutes or so.

A few of my favorite simmer pots are:

🍎 Cinnamon Apple - cinnamon sticks, apple peels, orange slices & cloves

🍊 Creamsicle - orange slices + few drops of vanilla extract

🍋 Lemon Cranberry - cranberries, lemon slices, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, cloves
